VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol)

VoIP is short for Voice Over Internet Protocol. VoIP is the technology used to transmit voice conversations over a data network using the Internet Protocol. Such data network may be the Internet or a corporate Intranet. Generally stating, VoIP is basically a telephone connection over Internet. It is also called Internet Telephony or IP Telephony. In VoIP, the data is sent digitally instead of analog in case of telephone lines. VoIP allows long-distance communication without the costs of long distance and international phone charges. Now a days, common Instant Messaging clients like Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger and Google Talk offer free VoIP service. Another very popular free VoIP software is Skype.
